Hand Printing My Very Own T-shirt

April 1, 2017 · 20 Comments

I haven’t shared it on my blog before, but for the past 11 months, I have been studying fashion design at ESMOD in Dubai.

For one of my very first printing and textiles class, we were asked to create a stencil and then hand print a t-shirt using the stencil. While I had a thousand designs in mind, I decided to keep it simple and bet on myself!

I decided I wanted to write my name in Arabic on my t-shirt because I have always admired the Arabic script since it looks so artistic. Since I don’t understand Arabic, my classmate who can speak and write Arabic helped to me translate my name and then I developed the font design as per my liking.

A fun fact is that if one doesn’t read the two dots hidden in the flower petals, then one can read the Arabic as Dubai instead of Deepti.

I decided to pair the tee with my current favourite blazer and current go to jeans.

Have you ever tried to make your own tee? I’d love to hear your experiences.

Oh what a fun tee! So nice that it has a double meaning too! It was lovely of your friend to help translate so you could make such a special piece 🙂

Hope you’re having a wonderful weekend.
