Ah, the joy of finally being able to write this post! Truth be told, I have held off writing this post because the weather here in Dubai feels anything but autumnal. Endless Dubai Summer as we call it. It is only in the past couple of days that the weather is cooling down and I finally feel like ‘autumn’ might be setting in.
When the weather gets cooler, I feel like switching up my lip colours to darker tones. In the past year, I have discovered a lot of new favourites that fall under this category and am currently loving them all.
So here they are in a clockwise order:
Smashbox Always Sharp Lip Liner in Figgy
This is a a matte lip liner, but I love using it all over my lips. It is perfect for that autumnal, mauve-rose lip. It is very long lasting and although matte, doesn’t feel too drying on the lips. This is also a great lip product for precision in application. The lid has a built in sharper, so you never have to worry about sharpening the pencil. On the downside, this also means that every time you close the lid, you lose out on a little bit of product as its self sharpening.
Bobbi Brown Artsicks in Cherrywood
The Artsticks from Bobbi Brown are such a great multitasking product! They can be used on your lips or cheeks. Cherrywood is a my-lips-but-better shade that I enjoy wearing. It is that perfect shade of pinky-brown for my skin-tone. It is also a very moisturing formula and feels quite buttery on the lips.
Rimmel Kate Moss Nude Lipstick in 48
This is a great cool brown, nude lipstick, another my-lips-but-better shade with a very moisturising formula. In the past, I have loved the Rimmel Kate Moss 107 lipstick which is a dark plummy matte lipstick and while and still do enjoy it, the formula on the nude lipsticks is a lot more lip friendly. It is very hydrating and long lasting. Even when it wears off, it wears off evenly. I featured it recently on my Instagram, here.
NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Dubai
Although, matte, the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream are very sheer on first application and the intensity can be built up as desired by adding multiple layers. The formula of these Matte Lip Creams is quite moisturising for a matte formula. Once applied, it takes a while to dry down matte, but once it sets, it doesn’t budge. Dubai is the perfect warm brown nude. It fits in perfectly with the current 90s brown lip trend. I have worn it in a previous post here.
YSL Babydoll Kiss & Blush Lips & Cheek in 11 Prune Impertinente
Although I mostly use YSL Babydoll Kiss & Blush Lips & Cheek on my lips, this is a great multi tasking product. I find that there are a couple of ways to apply this plummy-red lip colour. For a more intense look, I use it directly with the applicator. The a more subtle, natural look, I often dab on a little product on to my ring ringer and then press the product on my lips.
Chanel Rouge Allure Ink in Expérimenté
The Chanel Rouge Allure Ink are the newest lip range from Chanel. This shade in Expérimenté is a burgundy red. The formula is matte. However, it does take time to dry down matte. Once dry, it feels very light on the lips and doesn’t dry out my lips. I wore it recently here. On first application, the colour comes out quite sheer and then can be built up for a opaque finish.
Estee Lauder Pure Colour Envy Lipstick in Insolent Plum
This is my all time favourite lipstick formula. I love all the lipsticks ,matte or cream, from this range. Insolent Plum is a deep plum shade, perfect for autumn. Its playful enough to make a serious outfit fun and serious enough to make a fun look, more sophisticated.
Tom Ford Patent Finish Lip Color in Ravageur
I love wearing a red lip all year around. However, I like this super glossy looking Patent Finish Lip Colour from Tom Ford for autumn, especially when I’m wearing a lot of matte makeup. I find that the glossy finish just adds more dimension to the total look. This is probably one of the more interesting formulas of all the lip colours included in this post. When first applied, Tom Ford Patent Finish Lip Color feels cold. It is extremely shiny and glossy. However, the formula is not very gloss like. Once it dries down after application, it still maintains all the gloss, but then doesn’t move around. Also, when it does eventually wear off, it leaves a nice even stain on the lip.
Do you switch up your lipsticks with seasons like me? What are your favourite picks for autumn?
