Having worked in the cosmetics industry my whole working career, it is not often that I want to and buy makeup. However, every and now again comes a collection that gives me that itch to shop.
I often research the products before buying, so my buyer’s remorse is often to a minimal. When I first heard that Chanel had a new creative director for makeup, I was intrigued, as this is a first for the brand. I had heard of Lucia Pica in the past, but never really seen her work in detail. However the Le Rouge Collection N°1 collection is truly her masterpiece.
This is Chanel’s autumn collection. It has been out for over a month now, but the reason for me not writing about it sooner, was that I was playing with it and really putting it to the test by using it daily; yes, daily. So I can give you my honest details.
I did not buy all the products from this collection. However I got the products that I thought I would wear the most.
The Eyeshadow Palette in Candeur et Experience:
When it comes to eyeshadows, usually, I like a little bit of sheen or shimmer, a little something to glisten my eyes. This palette is however, is completely matte. When I was buying the palette, I was well aware of this fact and wanted to try it nevertheless.
Although it is matte. The texture of the powders doesn’t feel too chalky. If you use an eyeshadow brush for application the finish the shadows glide on to the lid very smoothly. In terms of fall out of colour, I have noticed none, which is great. In terms of pigmentation and colour intensity, all four shadows in the palette are equally pigmented. Since the powders are not chalky, the colour payoff is great to build up, meaning, the amount of product you get on the brush is just the right amount needed for application. It is not too much or too little. If you need more, you can add more and build up the intensity as desired.
In the photograph below, I have used all four colours from the palette. Despite of having a scary colour like red, this palette is extremely wearable and also and also very universal to all skintones.
Illusion D’Ombre Velvet in Rouge Contraste:
This is a limited edition shade specially created for this collection. It is the perfect product to create that signature smoky Olivia Palermo eye look. It is very moussey in texture; more than the other Illusion D’Ombres from Chanel. I find the best way to use it is with my ringer finger rather than a brush. While it is easy to work with, while wet, once it sets, it does not budge and stays put.
Nail Vernis in Nail Gloss Rouge Radical:
This nail polish is very pretty. It is a nail gloss and looks like jelly on the nails. The formula is really long lasting. On me it lasted for a week without chipping, which is really rare, as no nail polishes last for more than 3 days on me, usually. You can also wear this as a top coat on your red nail polish and it will sort of changes the shade or red a little bit, which I really like. I really enjoyed using this and now want to try wearing it over white nail polish.
Have you tried the Le Rouge Collection N°1 collection. What are your thoughts I would love to know.
