Huda Beauty released her new Liquid Matte lipsticks this week and I managed to get my hands on them, so I thought I’d review them.
I am a big liquid lipstick fan in general. In my opinion, if applied correctly, they are easy to use and can be long lasting. However, this also depends on the texture of the lipstick. Liquid lipsticks come in two finishes, glossy and matte. Glossy liquid lipsticks have been in the market for a while, however, it wasn’t until the launch of liquid matte lipsticks early last year, that liquid lipsticks have been a big thing.
In my opinion, this mainly because of the formula. Glossy liquid lipsticks by definition are glossy and hence have more oil than pigment. This makes the pigment on the lips to move around more. A matte liquid lipstick once applied, dries matte and does not budge, making it more long lasting.
I bought two Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipsticks in the shades, Icon (top) and Cheerleader (bottom) in the image above.
The packaging the packing of this lipsticks is like a lipgloss. It comes in translucent tube and has a doe-foot applicator. The applicator is not large or diamond shaped as used for many liquid lipsticks, however, since the formula is quite watery in consistency, the doe-foot applicator works perfectly.
In the swatches below, you will see that Icon (top) is a pinkish auburn colour. It dries down slightly darker on my lips. Cheerleader, (below) is a Cardinal red with a pinkish undertone.
In the picture below, I am wearing one layer of Cheerleader and my first thoughts are that although the it is very close to the swatch on my arm above, the colour on the lips darkens slightly than the swatch. This might be because the natural colour of my lips is quite mauve-y.
In terms of the formula, these Liquid Matte lipsticks are a little more watery as compared to all the other liquid matte lipsticks I have tried. As a result, they are slightly more runny and a little bit goes a long way. This however does not impact the performance on colour. They are extremely pigmented and the colours show up really well. They are very light in texture and don’t feel heavy or too drying on the lips. In fact, once they dry, you can barely feel them.
In terms on longevity, these lipsticks are very long lasting. I wore them in the morning, then had lunch and they still did not need a touch up. Normally, no lipstick lasts more than two hours on me, so for these lipsticks to last for this long is really something.
These lipsticks are priced at AED 100 in the UAE, which is quite competitive with the Kat Von D prices here.
All in all, I was really impressed with the Huda Beauty Liquid Mattes and would love to try out some more colours from the range.
Have you tried any of the Huda Beauty Liquid Mattes? What are your thoughts on them?
