When I was little, I used to tell me mum that I wanted to move to a country with a temperate climate only so that when autumn and winter would come, I could fulfil my fantasy of wearing jackets! You see, growing up in hot and humid Mumbai- a jacket was never a necessary item of clothing people thought of… ever.
Fastforward 15 years later, I moved to England and wore all sorts of jackets to my heart’s content. And, while all was fine in my jacket paradise, panic set in when I decided to move to Dubai after a few years of living in London. “No one wears jackets in Dubai”, I cried to my best friend on the phone, “Its a desert!”
However on moving here, I realised that there are actually two kind of temperatures you live in- indoors in air-conditioning and outdoors in the hot sun. The good news was, I could still wear my leather jacket in the desert.
When I first laid eyes on this jacket hanging on the rails at H&M about three years ago, It was everything I ever wanted. Black, quilted and faux leather. Back then I wasn’t ready for the commitment to a real leather jacket.
Three years and countless wears later, this is still one of my favourite jackets. Its worn really well over the years and is really easy to style with a variety of outfits. I often find myself reaching for it over my real leather jacket as it is a lot lighter in weight and perfect for air-conditioned weather. Whether it is in the desert heat or in cool air conditioning, I can easily call this jacket a staple in my wardrobe.
